Solo Show: Nothing Personal

“These works are about the proportion of personal and impersonal.
Working with his own body, the artist portrays himself, but in this process a shift occurs: a person begins to look at himself from outside and becomes an object for himself.
This movement from "I" to "object" makes the image less personal, despite the fact that its base is one's own experience.

Nothing Personal fixes this state when the personal is present, but no longer belongs to just one person.”

Who’s Body Is It Anyways?

There's a standoffish attitude that I display when I paint myself. There's a line that I often cross, that makes it seem like the subject is no longer me, but an amorphous vessel for my ideas. My face begins to disappear, my scars and tattoos fade away. This isn't a new idea to me, something that I organically started doing in my work since highschool.

How much of myself should really remain in the work? How far can I detach from my own body by working in this way?

Kiss, Eat, Smoke

Kiss, Eat, Smoke is a video piece exploring the way of simultaneously creating and destroying. It examines the process in a lighthearted way by utilizing everyday objects such as an apple, lipstick and cigarettes to demonstrate how you can simultaneously change the things around you and destroy them in the next breath.
In the video the artist is seen putting on lipstick, kissing an apple, stamping the kisses onto their own face, eating said apple and smoking. This process is an exploration of printmaking techniques in a non standard way on unexpected for printmaking objects. Although in this case the apple is often cut open and used as a printmaking stamp, playing with the inversion of its power and position in this situation.
I use my body as a tool to print my kiss on objects, and then back onto myself, simultaneously making my body the tool and the canvas, which further emphasizes the close nature of creating and destroying,
In the video editing aspect of the piece, sounds are sometimes replaced to not match the image, like the sound of biting into an apple whilst a drag of a cigarette plays on screen, further pushing the audience to question the nature of what they’re seeing and the role of each factor on screen.

Sand and Snow (Version 2)

“Sand and snow. Simple and minute as a single unit, but powerful, overwhelming and beautiful when combined.

I love the beach but my heart lies in a landlocked country far away. I lay in snow 3 thousand kilometers away and I think of digging my hands into a dune. I will think repeatedly about how it feels like the two cannot coexist."

This is an ongoing project I've been developing since 2024, of playing with the parallelities between sand and snow, how both when put together in large quantities can be overwhelming, whilst also comparing the each one to love and grief as a way to make these emotions more tangible and digestible when they seem overwhelming. This project is also a way for me to deal with living between two places and missing both of them, while grasping with the idea if the two can really coexist.

We Don’t Have To Talk About It

300 Polaroids taken over the course of 2 years. The idea behind this work was to take 3 photos of whatever is around me in the moment and then write freeform text that spans the 3 polaroids of the moment, wether it’s a song or an idea that was stuck in my head. The work ended up accidentally autobiographical, capturing major events in my life such as getting over a heartbreak, getting used to a new country, along with 3 apartment moves. Wether the work is completed or will continue is yet to be decided.
